Sean’s advertising career only started after his return from working in the United States when he took on the role of Vice President of Business Development in Interpublic Group (IPG) for all of its services initially and subsequently, co-founded Ensemble Worldwide, an award-winning creative agency together with two other colleagues back in 2015.
Ensemble Worldwide started relatively unknown and grew strength to strength having disrupted the advertising industry with its startup mentality and approach in crafting marketing campaigns for renowned brands within the region. His role as Executive Business Director in this new creative offering of IPG Mediabrands Malaysia not only acquired new businesses and achieved revenue milestones for the holding company but proved to non-believers that their work was good. So good that the underdog agency won the coveted Effie Malaysia’s Agency of the Year for 3 consecutive years from 2016 to 2018. This is in addition to the other many global, regional and local accolades received from industry awards shows. He has worked on a wide array of brands namely Sunway Group, CIMB Bank, Grab, Maxis, Shell, Johnson & Johnson, Nippon Paint, Tune Protect, Unilever and Munchy’s, just to name a few.
As Isobar’s Chief Executive Officer, he led a team of 40 creative staffs winning multiple awards including being the only Malaysian agency that garnered the APAC Effie Award - Gold in the year 2018, thus reinforcing it as Dentsu Aegis Network's premier digital creative agency in Malaysia. Under his leadership, the team won a few key accounts such as the digital services portfolio at U-Mobile, Standard Chartered Bank and Traveloka among many others.
Sean spent his formative years as a young professional in global organisations such as Citibank, Tesco and Tiffany & Co. He played a pivotal role in growing the outbound telemarketing unit and portfolio balances in credit cards during his time in the Sales and subsequently, Product Marketing divisions of the American bank. This inadvertently helped coached him largely to be the leader he is today. His next move as the lead in Revenue Generation Services for Tesco Malaysia with the main priorities of adding new revenue streams to increase the British retailer's net revenue surpluses was another significant career move. It was during this time of his career that a secondment opportunity and then, permanently transferred to Dunnhumby, a United Kingdom (UK) based global consultancy specialising in actionable insights driven by a deep understanding of customer data was offered to him. He continued to refine his skills of using data-led insights for both Tesco and the vast array of manufacturers that sold their products on the shelves of Tesco such as Unilever, P&G, Colgate, Kimberly Clark, Nestle, F&N and many others, to continuously improve the customer’s experience both in and out of stores. He gained the know-how of using the insights from massive data volumes collected and its delivery impact at scale – having been posted in global cities such as Shanghai and London to help other fellow consultancies lay the groundwork for its advisory service and studied the sophisticated customer first principle at work in the UK, respectively.
Growing up in a small town in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Sean’s humble childhood drove him to be resourceful and excel in life. He holds an honours degree in Accountancy from the University of Malaya, achieved on a full scholarship. He is a firm believer in the eternal pursuit of knowledge and a keen reader. He also believes in the diversity and inclusion of underrepresented groups within the community and thus, gives his time when possible to this cause. He currently resides in Kuala Lumpur and has a keen eye for everything luxe – a skill honed when he spent his time working at Tiffany and Co. His sense of style is colourful and unique with a collection of shoes that would stop traffic.
